CharismaNOW -- Christian News from the editors of Charisma Magazine: "Jerry Falwell Seeks 'Uprising of Courageous Pastors' for Political Forum
Baptist preacher Jerry Falwell, whose endorsement of President Bush has raised questions about his church's tax-exempt status, is urging pastors and churches to be involved in the political process. This weekend, Falwell anticipates 10,000 ministers to come for a Politics and the Pulpit forum at his Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, recently asked the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to investigate Falwell because of a column posted in July on the Web site of Falwell's Liberty Alliance, a nonprofit educational and lobbying organization similar to his defunct Moral Majority, the Associated Press reported.
Titled 'Time to Open Wallets for Bush,' the column, said: 'For conservative people of faith, voting for principle this year means voting for the re-election of George W. Bush. The alternative, in my mind, is simply unthinkable.'"
