US News Article | Reuters.com IRS Collects Record Revenue from Enforcement

US News Article | Reuters.com: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. tax officials collected record revenue of $43.1 billion in fiscal 2004 from enforcement cases that scrutinized tax returns of large businesses and high-income people, the government said on Thursday.
The Internal Revenue Service said fiscal 2004 enforcement revenue climbed 15 percent from the $37.6 billion collected the year earlier.
In fiscal 2005, IRS Commissioner Mark Everson said the IRS would audit more small businesses and tax-exempt organizations, including charities and other groups that may have broken tax rules by supporting or opposing a specific candidate during the U.S. presidential election. "
