CANSO, N.S. � The cash-strapped town of Canso has set up a bank account to handle the donations it's receiving from across Canada.
In a plebiscite last month, residents of the 400-year-old fishing port voted to keep their town status instead of cutting costs and merging with Guysborough County.


Since then, the town has been getting many letters of support. Then last week, a cheque arrived from a family in Pictou County.
'Never seen anything of this nature,' said Mayor Ray White.
