Chennai, July 16 (IANS) Chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand played 64 simultaneous matches for a fundraiser for spastics here Saturday.

Anand and NGO Vidyasagar, formerly the Spastics Society of India, jointly hosted 'Vishy vs Chennai' at a city hotel.

Anand played 64 opponents - one for each square on a chess board - each of whom had donated Rs.5,000 to the charity for the privilege of playing with him.

The proceeds will fund the purchase of wheelchairs and orthopaedic aids."
