SIR BOB GELDOF - GELDOF COUNTERS CHARITY CRITICISM

SIR BOB GELDOF - GELDOF COUNTERS CHARITY CRITICISM: "GELDOF COUNTERS CHARITY CRITICISM

SIR BOB GELDOF

SIR BOB GELDOF has hit back at stinging criticisms from the organisers of the Make Poverty History (MPH) campaign over his handling of the Live 8 concerts and his appraisal of the outcome of the G8 summit in July (05).

The charity coalition initially hoped celebrity involvement would raise awareness about the issues affecting the developing world, but as the Live 8 concerts grew into a huge media circus they worried the stars involved had lost touch with the campaign's root support, and that Geldof over-estimated the scope of the ensuing G8 summit deal on debt.

But Geldof maintains his involvement with the MPH campaign will save millions of lives - and he targets 'internal squabbling' within the coalition as the main stumbling block to success."
