Maine's nonprofit firms lift economy: "Vital economic engines
A report released recently by the Maine Association of Nonprofits reveals that Maine is home to 5,560 charitable nonprofit organizations that together employ more than 70,000 people. And those are only the organizations with individual annual gross revenues of more than $5,000. Very small organizations, such as condominium associations and social clubs, are often registered as nonprofit organizations but were not included in the report."
