St. Louis Review Online

St. Louis Review Online: "Food pantries and agencies throughout the archdiocese are seeing rising costs for food and other essentials limit their operations while an increasing number of people are seeking help.

'The price of everything is going up,' noted Jan Hooker, pantry program director for Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service in St. Charles.

Hooker noted that the pantry is open in the evening because so many people who are helped work during the day. 'Most of our families have jobs, and some have two jobs. One woman has three jobs. When you work service jobs for $6 to $8 an hour, two jobs are barely enough,' Hooker said."
