Memphians gave more to charity than national average in '07, study finds : Business News : Memphis Commercial Appeal: "That's borne out in the relatively high percentage of charitable contributions that stay in the community, said Virginia Stallworth, executive director of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center and president of the Memphis chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Of the estimated $1.58 billion in charitable giving area residents, foundations and companies did in 2007, about 80 percent went to nonprofits in the region. The 2002 figure was 79 percent."
