A total of 99 birdwatchers gathered in Berrien County last Saturday for the 22nd annual Southwest Michigan Team Birdathon, organized by Love Creek Nature Center and Berrien County Parks.

Event coordinator Kip Miller said the teams together generated $38,875 in pledges for a variety of local and regional nature and conservation organizations."

During the first quarter of this year, our job banks featured double the number of postings compared to the first quarter of 2009. And now there’s a new survey from The Chronicle of Philanthropy which shows that charitable giving grew by a median of 11 percent in the first three months of 2010, compared with 2009."

Then, last month, a BP oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, causing one of the largest oil spills in U.S. history. With the BP Sea Otter Habitat set to open this week, a potential feel-good moment has turned into a public relations landmine.
