‘Invisible’ giving yields results | The Post and Courier, Charleston SC - News, Sports, Entertainment: In the old days the churches really were the primary channel for charity. However, today giving to churches and houses of worship has fallen to less than 50 percent of all charitable contributions. Said differently, that means that for every church steeple there is another, invisible steeple, made up of charitable organizations and volunteer efforts in our community.
