Charitable giving has slow, steady growth in 2012: haritable giving was up 3.5% last year, mainly benefiting animals, the arts and the environment, according to the 2012 Giving USA report from the Center for Philanthropy at Indiana University.
Overall, Americans gave $316.23 billion to charity.
